programs Quality of Life

As part of its longtime mission of enhancing the quality of life in Port Washington and surrounding communities, Residents monitors and contributes to everyday efforts to create clean, green and efficient public spaces that make living and doing business here a pleasure.

Our work in this capacity often involves collaboration with government agencies, civic groups and other local organizations, making this a truly communal undertaking.

Under the program’s umbrella, we’ve led and otherwise participated in a variety of initiatives, including:

  • Succesfully advocated for the adoption of a Tree Ordinance that mandates public notice before any tree is taken down in Port Washington (Led by Curt Trinko, Dan Donatelli & Rick Krainin)
  • Planted most of the trees on Port Washington Boulevard, Main Street and Shore Road (Led by Myron Blumenfeld)
  • Brought a water play area to the Blumenfeld Family Park (Led by Jennifer Rimmer)
  • Actively Plan and care for 16 gardens on the Port Washington Peninsula.  (Led by Karin Eckert)
  • Continually host community clean-ups on Main Street and along Port’s waterfront.  (Led by Executive Director, Mindy Germain)
  • Launched The Clean, Green Zone on Main Street Spring ‘09 to improve the appearance and cleanliness of Port Washington’s central business district (Led by Doug Wood)
  • Working with TONH, the Villages of Port North and Manorhaven and other community groups to create a shoreline to shoreline trail along Hempstead Harbor Park to Roslyn and a Manhasset Bay trail stretching from the Town Dock to Manorhaven Park. (Led by Dan Donatelli,  Paul Stewart and Rick Krainin)
